Demonstration of flying ping pong ball

We have total of 5 video,  3 video are successful attempt and 2 video are failed attempt to made the ping pong ball fly up!

This video are the ping pong ball that fly the higher.

Another of successful attempt!

Below of the video is our failed attempt

This is our group method to make the ping pong ball fly.

Week 7 Mini Experiment

This week we did a mini experiment of floating a ping pong ball as high as possible with papers and balloon. It remind me of watching a video during lecture time that is using a hair dryer to float a ping pong ball. So I guess that the theory applied to it are the same since air stream from the balloon moves faster around the side of the ball than the air on top of it causing heavier pressure on top of the ball to hold it firmly for a period of time. Hope that there are more such experiment for us to explore.

Jet Engine Demonstration

In today's class, we had a demonstration on how a jet engine works. In this demonstration, we were supposed to take note of the temperature inside the turbine as well as the rotating speed of the turbine. The noise created by the jet engine was very loud as we were supposed to put on the headphones when the engine starts. There was flame at the output when the rotating speed of the turbine reached at a certain value. Though it was fast, it was quite cool to see the flame. I think the next few lessons should be very interesting.

Trip to Aerospace Hub for jet engine demonstration

The demonstration was amazing, although already know the theory behind it. But nevertheless, it was an awesome experience to be able hear a jet engine running in a confined space, the sound was of such strong disturbance of air and was deafening. Another amazing part of the demo, was the sight of the flame, although it can only be seen for awhile. Hope to see more demonstrations in the weeks to come!

Jet Engine With Gas Turbine Demonstration - Anthony Tan

Mr. Scott brought us to see how the jet engine run.  it's look interesting. because we can hear the sound and see the flame around at 9k to 10k RPM. We can feel the air forces around us and how the jet engine with gas turbine push the plane forward.

I've found few link which allowed us to know more about jet engine with gas turbine work.

This video also work the same of the demonstration. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1TqwAKwMuM)

Jet-Engine Demonstration

This week I saw the demonstration of how a Jet-Engine start up and work. It's a very great experience as this is my first time seeing an demo airplane engine. The demo is cool and awesome as when the engine start up I can saw the flame coming out for that split second and the sound of the engine is quite loud as though couldn't compare to the actual one. I think it would be great if we could often see this kind of demo.

Thoughts on Solo Flight Simulator (Wei Bin)

Hello! This week I have learnt how to control my own flight through the flight simulator game. It is not that hard to control an airplane through this game. After the game, I have found out that in order to lift an airpane, the air pressure above must be lower than the air pressure below the airplane. The lift force of an airplane depends greatly on the area of the wing, shape of aerofoil, angle of attack, altitude and speed of the aircraft. It is quite interesting to know about airplane and I hope to learn more from Mr Scott on the next few lessons.

Solo flight experience- Leyu

Through the past few weeks of lessons on aerodynamics, i thought that it might be easy to maneuver a plane with certain knowledge of it. But it seems that flying a plane is not as easy as i thought after trying out the solo flight. I feel that it takes many experiences to control a plane well without much faults. There may have alot of factors which would affect the plane's flight such as the speed, altitude, wing size and shape of the plane. With these knowledge, we need to know how to combine all of it and apply it in a actual situation of flying a plane. Will be looking forward to the next lesson!

Anthony's thoughts on Air Flight Simulation

I have learnt the 3 basic of aircraft controls. This 3 control allowed aircraft to move in 3 axis.

-Ailerons for movements around the horizontal longitudinal axis.
-Elevators for movements around the horizontal cross axis.
-Rudder for movements around the vertical axis.

I found that the air flight simulation game is very interesting because it can simulate to flying a aircraft.
I have played with the air flight simulation in mission 1. It Using this 3 control to move the aircraft to destination point. Without any 1 of the 3 basic control, The aircraft had no ability to fly and move around.

Thoughts on Air Flight Simulation (Wilson Ong)

Hi,

This week I have learned 3 basic aircraft control and 5 factor that influence the lift performance of an airplane's wing. It's a great explore and understanding to me as I get to know more about an airplane and how sophisticated are these design as any small error can cause a great danger to anyone in the flight. Many factor are take into consideration like area of the wing, shape of the aerofoil and etc.. All this factor can affect how fast, high and how sharp a plane can maneuver. Hope that next lesson I will be able to explore more about aerospace.

Jo's solo flight

Hi, I had my first solo flight today and I think that it isn't as hard as I thought it would be. After going through a couple of theory lesson with Mr Scott, I thought that it will be pretty hard to complete the missions for the solo flight. However, putting in the knowledge of what Mr Scott taught us, the missions became a whole lot easier to complete. Looking forward to the next hands on lesson!
